    Explaining The Cat Door

Families with cats often install a cat door for their beloved pets. This type of door for one's feline friend is also called a cat flap. The idea of a cat door is to let a car come in and out without the owner opening the door. These pet openings have come along way since they were initially tried and tested. Their frames are usually made out of plastic or wood. The doors themselves are built to last the comings and goings of the cat. There are aspects of an ideal type of cat door which a cat owner should look out for when choosing one.

    Size and Frame

Always take the breed and size of your cat in consideration when buying a cat flap. Some breeds, like the maine coon cat, are larger than average and others are small enough that they lack the strength to push a heavy door. The frame that holds the door should be resistant to water, since it will be exposed to rain and even snow.

Some cat doors are built in glass while others are installed through walls. The size and frame of the cat should be in accordance with the size and frame of the cat door.

    Electric or Magnetic

These cat doors work in coordination with the cat. Some doors can detect the approach of the cat through the electronic collar that it's wearing. This distinction gives the cat the advantage of being the only cat able to go in and out of the cat door. This is a safety feature for cats that are chased by children, dogs, or other cats. The disadvantage to this is that if the "key" gets lost, the pet is left out on its own until such time that its owner wonders where it could be. In other types of doors, the trap will open by detecting the presence of the cat itself, and not a collar. There are some limits on what these doors can do, so you should really get complete information on them before you buy one.

A cat door is a very practical idea. This will let the cat come and go by itself. You can even get a cat flap that will open only for your cat.
